Participant Criteria

In order to be a part of the Work Hard / Play Hard project, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You self-identify as a gay, bisexual or queer man over the age of 18.
  • You have used recreational drugs in the last 2 years.
  • You have been to a party or private event (hook-up, sex party etc) where recreational drugs were used.
  • You have had sexual contact with another man while on drugs – of any kind. 
  • You have never been in, nor are currently enrolled in, an addiction treatment programme.
  • You have never been in nor are not currently enrolled in a counselling or peer support for your drug or alcohol use.

These criteria have been developed in line with the ethical research committee of the University of Sussex. Consenting to join a focus group or engage in a 1-2-1 interview means you meet the above criteria.
